ABOUT Dr. Laila Spina

I was born in South Africa and from a young age, I was fascinated with the brain and psychology. In 1998 I emigrated to the United States and attended graduate studies in clinical psychology at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, followed by a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology and rehabilitation at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. After several years of experience as a neuropsychologist in various medical centers, I started private practice in Honolulu in 2011.

In addition to evaluating memory and other cognitive abilities, my goal is to improve patients’ quality of life through lifestyle changes, tools, and strategies designed to maximize brain health.

I recognize how difficult it can be for many people to see a psychologist (or any medical provider, for that matter). I treat everyone with respect and compassion – as though they were a member of my own family.
